I know I am not walking but I thought a quick entry to let you know the status on the walk. Well I am happy to report that I am starting to feel great and can’t wait to head off. The last 6 months have been challenging to say the least but thanks to Ingi , a lot of rest, a great team of Doctors, therapists, shrinks, Thai massage lady’s, I am ready to go!
I have lost 25kg’s since I was in hospital. I am trying to walk daily, with some swimming a few days a week thrown in. It is not only myself that has to get fitter but also Kuiseb. Since she tore her cruciate ligament her back leg has been pretty weak. Both of us will have to toughen up. As I said before we will need to be totally self-sufficient so we are going to head to Spitzkoppe for 5 days to get some km in and to go through the gear to make sure everything works. My endurance is far less than it was so I will work on 10-15km/ day. That means that once I leave the coast I will have about 25 days of walking with only 1 water supply spot until I get to Wereldsend.
Even though I am known as chadmanwalking I actually am out there to get back to nature and find some sanity. Walking is just something I do while I enjoy the peace. There is a hell of a lot to be grateful for and sometimes you need a wakeup call to realize it. Do whatever or go where ever you need to go to achieve that. As a friend once said to me “I like you a lot better when you have come back from a walk”.
I will write a short entry before I leave but until then I hope you all have a great May! I sure as hell am going to 😉
